historoo for AI apps MCP
Ask your AI about anything you’ve seen.
Connect Claude, Cursor, VS Code or any app that speaks MCP to historoo. It searches the pictures, videos, headlines and pages you’ve seen, and does things in historoo for you. All on your own computer.
Part of Pro, which is free during the beta. Needs the historoo extension and Node.js.
Works with
- Claude Desktop
- Claude Code
- Cursor
- VS Code
- Windsurf
- LM Studio
- Any MCP app
How it works
historoo-mcp is a small program that runs on your computer. Your AI app starts it, and the historoo extension in your browser connects to it. Your AI app asks; historoo answers from what it saved.
historoo’s server is never part of it. We don’t see what you ask or what it finds.
- Turn it onIn historoo, open Settings › AI apps and switch it on. You get a pairing code.
- Add it to your AI appCopy the settings for your app (below, or in historoo) and restart the app.
- Ask“What was that video about…”, “find the jacket I saw on Sunday”, “put these in a collection”.
Set it up
You need the historoo extension (Pro, free in the beta) and Node.js, the LTS version. Then:
Turn on AI apps
In historoo, open Settings › AI apps and switch on Let AI apps use historoo. It shows your pairing code, and ready-made settings you can copy from there instead.
Add historoo to your AI app
Type your pairing code above and the one-click buttons install historoo with it.
Open Settings › Developer › Edit Config, add this, save, and restart Claude Desktop.
The file is %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json on Windows and ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json on a Mac. If it already has mcpServers, add historoo inside it.
Run this in a terminal (Git Bash, PowerShell or Terminal).
Use Add to Cursor above, or add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json:
Use Add to VS Code above, or run MCP: Open User Configuration and add this:
Any app that runs MCP servers on your computer (stdio) works. Give it this command, with the pairing code in the environment:
Restart the app and ask
historoo finds it within 30 seconds, and Settings › AI apps shows it as connected. Try:
- “What did I read about interest rates this week?”
- “Find pictures of red trainers I’ve seen.”
- “Summarise the YouTube videos I watched yesterday.”
- “Put the flats I looked at into a collection called Moving.”
- “Pause historoo for the next hour.”
What your AI can do
Each tool is named so your AI knows when to use it. Anything that deletes waits for you.

Your AI gets in. Nobody else does.
historoo and your AI app talk on your computer. Our server isn’t involved.
What your AI app reads goes to the company that makes it, under its own privacy policy, as anything you tell it does. So connect an app you trust, and turn it off in Settings whenever you like.
- A pairing code
- historoo and historoo-mcp each prove they know it before anything is said. Another program, or a website, can’t pretend to be either.
- Only on your computer
- historoo-mcp listens on your computer alone (127.0.0.1), and only a browser extension may connect to it.
- You say yes to deletes
- Deleting things or never saving a site opens a page in historoo that says which app asked and what would go.
- Locked means locked
- While historoo is locked with a PIN, it answers nothing.
- Off when you want
- Turn it off in Settings › AI apps, or make a new pairing code, and every app is disconnected straight away.
Questions
Anything else, email us from the address in the privacy policy.
- ChatGPT or a phone?
- Those can’t run programs on your computer yet. Use Settings › Your data › Download for an AI chat instead: a text file of the last week, month or more that you attach to a chat.
- Does the browser need to be open?
- Yes, with historoo in it. While it’s closed, historoo-mcp can still search your latest “Download your history” .zip from Settings › Your data, if you’ve made one.
- Is it part of Pro?
- Yes, and Pro is free for everyone during the beta.
- Several AI apps?
- Yes. Each runs its own historoo-mcp, and historoo connects to all of them with the same pairing code.
- Which browsers?
Chrome now.
Edge and
Firefox are coming soon.
