The short version

Who we are, and these terms

historoo is made by [your legal name, or your company's name and registered number], [postal address], hello@historoo.com ("we", "us"). These terms apply when you install or use the historoo extension, use historoo Pro, or use this website, historoo.com. Our privacy policy explains what happens to your data.

Using historoo

You may install and use historoo on your own computers. It's free; Pro adds more (see Pro).

What it saves is for your own use. historoo keeps a private copy of things you've seen on the web (thumbnails, headings, prices, captions) so you can find them again. That content still belongs to whoever made it. You agree:

historoo never saves sign-in or payment pages, and by default skips banking, health, adult, email and messaging sites (see the privacy policy). If you turn any of those on, you're choosing to keep a copy of what you see there.

Pro

Buying and cancelling

Pro is a subscription (£4 a month or £30 a year, or the price shown at checkout in your currency). It's sold by Paddle (Paddle.com Market Limited), our reseller and merchant of record, so your purchase is with Paddle under Paddle's buyer terms, and they handle payment, tax, invoices, refunds and cancellation. Subscriptions renew until you cancel, which you can do at any time from Manage subscription in Settings; Pro then runs to the end of the period you've paid for. If you're a consumer, you may have a right to cancel and get a refund within a period set by your local law; Paddle's terms explain how.

historoo is free to install and use, and Free has no time limit. Pro starts when you subscribe. When Pro ends, sync between your computers and searching your history on this website stop that day, with no grace period. Everything you've saved stays searchable on your computers, and you can choose to keep saving on the Free plan instead (where only the last 7 days are kept). We email you when you cancel, and 3 days before Pro ends.

Your account

Pro belongs to your historoo account, and works on any computer where you sign in to it. Keep your password safe, and sign out computers you no longer use (Settings lists them). An account is for one person: don't share it, or sell or give Pro to others with it. You can delete your account in Settings at any time. Your subscription then stops renewing and Pro runs to the end of the period you've paid for; deleting your account doesn't refund the rest of it.

Your data

What historoo saves is yours and stays on your computers, or encrypted in your own storage if you use sync. We never hold it, so we can't restore it if it's lost. If you forget your sync passphrase and lose your recovery key, your synced history can't be opened by anyone, including us. Keep backups of anything that matters to you.

Sync uses your own Google Drive or OneDrive, under your agreement with that provider. We're not responsible for their service.

Changes to historoo and these terms

We keep improving historoo, and features may change. We'll tell you in the extension before any change to these terms that affects you takes effect. If you don't agree with a change to Pro, you can cancel. If we ever stop offering Pro, we'll give reasonable notice and refund any whole months you've paid for but can't use.

Our responsibility to you

We provide historoo with reasonable care and skill. Apart from that, and from what the law in your country requires, it's provided as it is, without other promises: for example, we can't promise it will save everything you see, or that every website will work with it.

We're not responsible for losses we couldn't reasonably have foreseen, for losses caused by things outside our control, or for business losses. Otherwise, if you're a business, our total responsibility to you is limited to what you paid for Pro in the 12 months before the problem.

Nothing in these terms limits responsibility that can't be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, and nothing in them affects your statutory rights as a consumer where you live.

Ending

You can stop using historoo at any time by removing it; cancel Pro first if you have it. We may stop providing Pro to an account that's used to break these terms, after telling you why where we can.

The law that applies

These terms are governed by Scots law, and you can bring a claim in the Scottish courts. If you're a consumer living in England and Wales or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts there. If you're a consumer living anywhere else, you also keep the protection of the mandatory law of your country, and you can bring a claim in your local courts. If you're using historoo for a business, the Scottish courts deal with any claim.
